Luca Marini added another page into his book of consistency, leaving Brno with another haul of points while Joan Mir’s race was once again ended prematurely by another rider.

The MotoGP World Championship’s return to the Automotodrom Brno saw over 200,000 fans fill the hills over the course of the weekend. After Friday’s deluge of rain, conditions went from strength to strength and the 21-lap Grand Prix of Czechia was held under crystal clear skies.

Sunday was all about continuing the consistency for Luca Marini aboard the Honda HRC Castrol machine. Getting his Honda off the line promptly, the #10 quickly joined the battle for the point scoring positions and moved his way into the group fighting for a top ten by mid-race distance. Holding firm, Marini crossed the line in 12th place as grip faded towards the end of the race. The result continues a perfect record of point scoring finishes from race starts for the Italian. Each lap since his return has improved his physical condition after his fall in Suzuka and he will no doubt return at his 100% after the break.

Joan Mir’s race lasted just a handful of laps, Alex Marquez crashing and taking the #36 down after multiple contacts previously in the lap. The 2020 World Champion was holding position in a tightly packed top six when the incident occurred. Mir was unharmed in the crash, though understandably frustrated as his string of race incidents continued for a third race in a row.

Now a three-week summer break begins, a brief respite from the intense sequence of back-to-back races which see out the remainder of the season. Both Luca Marini and Joan Mir will be back on track for the Austrian GP, August 15 to 17, at the Red Bull Ring when the MotoGP World Championship season resumes.

Luca Marini

“Good to get some more points today, a little bit of extra motivation heading into the summer. But it was another tough race for us today, like I said yesterday – this circuit really allows you to make the most of a MotoGP bike and we are struggling with top speed. The increased temperature today also dropped the rear grip which stopped us from having the same turning. I am confident that once some new parts come, we can make a good step and match the riders who were close to us at the start of the year. The summer break is a good chance for everyone to finalise these parts so we keep working like always.”

“I made a good start to the race and was there with the leading group in the first laps. I was confident in my pace and had everything under control early in the race. Alex had tried to overtake me a couple of times earlier in the lap and I had already felt some contacts in the rear. Then in the chicane he lost the front, and he touched me, and I finished on the ground. There’s nothing more to say about it. The best way to avoid situations like this is to be faster, this is what we have to work on as a team.”
