Shinichi Kokubu joined the Honda Racing Corporation in 1986, working in the Development Department on the 500c, TT F1 and TT F3 projects. From 1996 to 2001 he was Project Leader for the NSR500 frame, and he was general Project Leader for the NSR500 in 2002. In 2003, he was Project Leader for the RC211V chassis. From 2004 to 2007 he worked as a Chief Engineer in MotoGP and SBK, and also as a chassis designer. In 2008 and 2009 Mr Kokubu was Project Leader for the RC212V, and from 2010 to 2012 he was Technical Director. He became Director of Development in 2013, and in 2016 he was appointed Director/General Manager in the Technology Development Division.
